Scientific Name: Citrus limon 'Ponderosa'. Common Name: Ponderosa Lemon. This is a small upright citrus tree that produces huge 2 to 5 pound fruits. Thought to be a cross between a lemon and a citron. Flavor is typical lemon-like and makes excellent lemon pies. Rarely available, it is grown mainly as an ornamental but can be trained as a unique bonsai subject. Easy to grow from seeds. It makes a unique ornamental container plant that is quite showy when fruits are ripe. The tree remains a manageable size and it makes an excellent landscape plant that is easily cared for. Tropical but can be wintered indoors in colder regions. It will bloom year-round filling the air with the aroma of citrus blossom nearly all year. Flower and fruit often will appear at the same time.
