Scientific Name: Licuala peltata var. sumawongii . Common name: not known. A really spectacular palm that is much sought after by collectors. Native to southern Thailand and Malaysia. Thought to be extinct in its native habitat. Fresh seeds are rarely available. This palm is attractive as both a house plant and landscape ornamental in warmer regions. Easy to grow from seeds and requires little maintenance in the landscape. It does need some protection against frost which can damage the foliage.
