Scientific Name: Guazuma ulmifolia.  Common names: 'Bay Cedar'. This is an erect and spreading tree that is often found in secondary growth forests, bears small fragrant flowers that are greenish yellow. Native and widely distributed in tropical America. It is widely grown in tropical areas as a ornamental landscape item and grown for the deep shade it provides. The fruit is edible and is a food source for many forest creatures, as well as for grazing animals. The bark is used for various purposes in different traditional medicines. Easy to grow from seeds. It is drought tolerant and is easily cared in the landscape.
