Scientific Name: Carludovica palmata.  Common name: Panama-Hat Plant. An elegant ornamental plant with leaves that resemble a fan palm.    Native to Belize and Central America.  The leaves are harvested to make the famous Panama hats. A very  unique plant in that it is both an ornamental and edible herbaceous tropical. Easy to grow from seeds.  A fast growing clumping plant that can reach 8 to 10 ft. tall in optimum conditions.  The young leaves are edible  It is great as a container plant or as a landscape item. Perfect to give your tropical or subtropical patio or courtyard a taste of the tropics. Good in full sun or light shade but prefers moist conditions.
