Scientific Name: Cicer arietinum .  Common names: 'chickpea' (garbanzo)'.  This is an annual tropical American plant with long pods with white seeds and grown especially for forage. In Central America it is grown primarily as a weed control green manure plant. The young pods can be used as snap beans. It is a bush-type plant. Pods can reach 10 to 14 inches in length, but are harvested at half that size for eating. Seeds are large, 1/2 to 3/4 inch long, and nearly as broad, and are sometimes used as coffee substitute. Easy to grow from seeds and is easily cared in the garden or landscape. The garbanzo beans are widely cultivated in all tropical and semi-tropical regions of world and is valuable as a food crop and a forage/cover crop
