Scientific Name: Dioon edule. Common name: Virgin's Palm, Mexican King Sago. This unique cycad is native to Mexico it is one of the most popular of all Dioons. Easy to grow from seeds. Will grow into a large plant with a very big number of leaves. Can be spectacular as a container plant in its juvenile stage. Somewhat cold hardy and as a landscape item, once it is established, it can tolerate temperatures down to 10 F for several days. It makes a nice focal point for a tropical or subtropical patio or courtyard. Endangered in its natural habitat areas because of over zealous collecting for the nursery trade.
