Scientific Name: Sicana odorifera. Common Name: 'Cassabanana' or 'casbanan, sikana', and 'musk cucumber'.  Synonyms: Cucurbita evodicarpa and Cucurbita odorifera. This is a large, fast growing herbaceous perennial vine native to tropical South America.  It is widely cultivated around the tropical regions of the world as an ornamental plant and for its sweet edible fruit. The ripe fruit can be eaten raw but is mainly used in the kitchen for making jam or other preserves. The immature fruit is cooked as a vegetable or in soup and stews. Used as a medicine in Belize treating head colds and high blood pressure. Easy to grow from seeds.
