Scientific Name: Parmentiera edulis.  Common name: 'Guajilote tree', 'cow okra'. An attractive tree that seldom grows more than 30 feet (9 m) in height. Native to southern Mexico (including Yucatan), Belize and Guatemala. A very interesting tree with edible and ornamental tropical fruits. The rather large, greenish-white flowers are borne singly or in clusters at the branch tips. It is easy to grow from seeds and makes an excellent trouble-free landscape tree. It has been a part of traditional medicine of indigenous Mexican communities since ancient times. It is reported to be a good remedy for colds, and the roots are used as a diuretic. The Aztecs used it for Renal Diseases, Dropsy, Gastric Indigestion, Colds, and Ear infections. The waxy-skinned fruit is eaten by numerous wildlife species, especially birds and small rodents. Fruits can grow up to 6 to 9 inches in length and has a sweetish flavor reminiscent of sugar cane.

This item is a special plant lover's packet of fifty (50) Parmentiera edulis seeds, to be delivered upon receipt of payment.
