Scientific Name: Chrysophyllum cainito. Common names: 'Star Apple or Caimito'. Star Apple is a medium-sized tree with a mature height of up to 30 feet. It makes a colorful specimen or accent tree in commercial and residential landscapes. Native to Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. The leaves are very attractive, dark green above and bronzy-satin below, creating an attrative display when wind blows through the trees. There are two varieties one with a dark purple colored fruit and one with green colored fruit. The fruits are delicious - sweet and juicy but sticky. Easy to grow from seeds.
