Scientific Name: Ipomoea alba. Common Name: Morning Glory. This is
a species of morning glory native to Tropical America. It is widely
cultivated all over the world and numerous cultivars with different
flower colours have been selected and marketed for use as ornamental
plants, but this is the genetic wild species. In cultivation they
have been favorites with gardeners for many years. Given the right
conditions, morning glories grow fast and form abundant foliage and a
continuous display of large, brilliant colored, trumpet-shaped blooms.
They can be used to decorate fences, trellises and walls or grow them
in containers or let them ramble as a ground cover. Will grow in any
soil, flowering profusely in full sun. There is a long history of the
use of this plant in traditional medicine in Mexico, Central and South
America.
