Scientific Name: Canna flaccida. Common name: Golden Canna. The is native of wetlands of Florida in the southeastern United States and is every bit as big and beautiful as some of the fancy hybrid cannas. It is a stunning plant with large tropical-looking leaves and bright yellow flowers. Used as a landscape item it will make a nice focal point to give any tropical or subtropical patio or courtyard a taste of the tropics. Easy to grow from seeds, and like most cannas if sown early and given generous treatment, it will probably flower the first year. Not cold hardy but can be grown in colder regions where rhizomes should be dug up and stored over winter. Scarify seeds and soak for 24 hours before sowing.
