Thus, an enviromental friendly source of renewable energy that can lessen the burden on imported fossil fuels. For bio-fuel enthusiasts, this oil (with the same characteristics as diesel fuel) and can be mixed up to 50% with regular diesel and used in the diesel engines of tractors and trucks. The plant is native to Mexico and Central America but widely cultivated as an ornamental. It likes heat and can tolerate drought conditions and will grow almost on any type of soil under tropical conditions with minimal inputs.  Both seeds and leaves are purgative and are sometimes used in traditional herbal medicines.  Easily propagated from seed. Sometimes planted as a hedge, or used as a support for vines in Vanilla plantations, or as living fence posts on tropical farms.
