Scientific Name: Bactris gasipaes. A large clustering species native to South America. Attractive in the landscape as free-standing clumps or when planted in masses of other tropical vegetation. Can be extremely spiny but is great as a security hedge or screen. Has edible fruits but is also grown commercially for its delicious heart of palm.
