Scientific Name: Cyrtostachys renda. Common name: Sometimes called the Red Sealing Wax palm or Lipstick Palm. An understory palm native to the rainforests of Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra. This is one of nature's most colorful tropical palms a "must have" for all palm collectors. A clustering palm with a brilliant red crownshaft (or orange in some varieties) that can reach heights of 15 feet or more. It is popular as both a house plant and landscape ornamental in warmer regions. This palm is easy to start from seeds and is easy to grow. Slow growing species that requires warm tropical temperatures and moist conditions. In cooler regions it can be grown as a house or patio plant kept outside during the summer and indoors during the winter. The planting soil should be slightly acidic and rich in organic material.
