Scientific Name: Citrus medica. Common Name: 'Citron'. This is a small upright citrus tree that produces huge 2 to 5 pound fruits. Flavor is typical lemon-like and makes excellent lemon pies. Rarely available, it is grown mainly as an ornamental but can be trained as a unique bonsai subject. Easy to grow from seeds. It makes a unique ornamental container plant that is quite showy when fruits are ripe. The tree remains a manageable size and it makes an excellent landscape plant that is easily cared for. Tropical but can be wintered indoors in colder regions. It can also be used as landscape tree in tropical regions. It will bloom year-round filling the air with the aroma of citrus blossom nearly all year. Flower and fruit often will appear at the same time.
