Scientific Name: Spondias cytherea.  Common name: Ambarella, Otaheite apple, Golden Plum.  An erect fast growing semi-deciduous tree that grows to about 25 ft (8 m) tall. Native to southern Mexico (including Yucatan), Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador. It produces a medium sized yellow skinned fruit with an unusual flavor and a single sharp, rather large, spiny seed.  Widely grown in the tropical regions and the fruit can be eaten fresh and used in cooking.  This tree is easy to    grow from seeds and can be used as a landscape tree urban environments. These seeds are for the tall variety, but there is a dwarf variety that has become popular for limited spaces.
