Scientific Name: Zea mays . Common Name: 'Maya Purple Corn'. This is a unique heirloom variety of corn that has been cultivated as a food and medicine for many gererations. The corn we offer is grown organically in Belize and is good for tortillas, flour, cornmeal, or eating fresh as corn-on-the-cob when young. Good drought tolerance. It is easy to grow and has good storage qualities. Easy to grow from seeds but seeds are rarely available commercially. Also great for home decorations. This corn was used as a food source and for medicine by the Aztecs of Mexico and Mayas in Central America.
